A simple synth motif is looped and manipulated, teased into a succession of juddering climaxes that will have dancefloors positively rapt. There is no kickdrum at all, making 'Roar' both a formidable DJ tool and an impressive, insouciant re-writing of the techno rulebook. There definitely is a kickdrum on B1 'Comfortably Uncomfortable', a tough and unbending one at that. It sets the scene for a panning synth motif and upstairs-downstairs bass melody precision tooled to reak maximum havoc on the floor. Bäumel's mastery of dancefloor mechanics and organics is in full effect, as he drops pressurized snares and intertwines shining slivers of synth. Where the strength of 'Roar' and 'Comfortably Uncomfortable' lies in their 4x4 linearity, B2 'Clair' is all about the swing, with the kickdrum offset by Latin percussion patterns and melody. Just under four minutes in a velvety, synthetic string theme swells into the foreground, rubbing against the drums and intricate. Meanwhile, Bäumel works the dropping contrasting the ceaseless forward momentum of the kick and plenty of dubby delay, It's a deeply atmospheric, dramatic track, suffused with melancholy and euphoria alike, and with enough tantalizing builds and heavy drop-downs to make it peak-time club material. Over the course of the three tracks here, Patrice Bäumel once again displays a restless desire to innovate, to keep moving, and not to stand still. www.getphysicalmusic.com

The talk will also highlight the significant regulatory barriers to implementing many policies (supported by the research discussed) that would increase the likelihood that consumers realize significant benefits from electricity industry re-structuring. BIOGRAPHY Frank A. Wolak is the Holbrook Working Professor of Commodity Price Studies in the Department of Economics at Stanford University. His fields of specialization are Industrial Organization and Econometric Theory. His recent work studies methods for introducing competition into infrastructure industries — telecommunications, electricity, water delivery and postal delivery services — and on assessing the impacts of these competition policies on consumer and producer welfare. From January 1, 1998 to March 31, 2011, Wolak was the Chair of the Market Surveillance Committee of the California Independent System Operator for electricity supply industry in California. He is a visiting scholar at University of California Energy Institute and a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). He currently directs the Program on Energy and Sustainable Development (PESD) in the Freeman-Spogli Institute (FSI) for International Studies.

Boston Dynamics, an engineering company that designs robots like BigDog, Cheetah, WildCat, and Atlas, is now the eighth robotic company to join Google's ranks in the last six months, the company confirmed Friday, according to The New York Times. The robotics company - based in Waltham, Massachusetts - is known for its fascinating robots that have a sense of balance and can walk and run on almost any kind of terrain. Boston Dynamics was established in 1992 and is known for supplying robotics technology mostly for Pentagon clients, including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Google has so far refused to reveal what it is planning to do with the new technology, but the internet giant's robotic efforts, headed by Andy Rubin, will certainly have impressive capability due to the new acquisition. The company also said it will keep the financial aspect of the deal confidential. The tech giant said that it intends to honor the existing military contracts the firm has, but does not plan to become a military contractor. As of now, Boston Dynamics has a $10.8 million contract with DARPA to supply several humanoid Atlas robots. The machines are set to participate in the DARPA Robotics Challenge, which awards the winning maker with a $2 million prize. The contest evaluates robots' ability to function during natural disasters and catastrophes such as an earthquake or a nuclear power meltdown. The company's robots are famous for their abilities to walk through terrain which is difficult even for humans. One of its four-legged robots, BigDog, can climb hills, walk through snow, travel through ice, and remain standing even after being kicked by a human, according to a video of the robot released in 2008. One of the company's recent creations is WildCat, a four-legged outdoor runner capable of rising, turning, and reaching running speeds of up to 16 miles per hour (mph) on flat ground. The robotics firm has also designed robots that can climb walls and trees, as well as run faster than any human being on earth. A video recorded the Cheetah robot running 29mph faster than the fastest human, Usain Bolt. The Jamaican sprinter's top speed is 27.78 mph (44.7km/h). Other robotics companies purchased by Google are based in the US and Japan, and focus on software for advanced robotic arms, grasping technology, and computer vision.

We develop a framework for the analysis of dynamic games that can be applied to the analysis of firm which compete in a market whose characteristics evolve over time as a probabilistic function of the actions of the firms competing in that market. Firm's chose their actions to maximize their perceptions of the discounted value of the returns that will accrue to them as a result of those actions. These returns depend on both their own states and their competitor's states. The firms know their own states, but only observe imprecise signals on the states of their competitors. Our goal is to provide a framework capable of analyzing the impact of policy or environmental changes in such a setting. Bayesian perfect Nash equilibria for environments that are rich enough to adequately approximate behavior have computational and informational demands that both; (i) make them impossible for applied researchers to use, and (ii) unlikely to be the best approximation to agent's actual behavior. So we introduce an alternative notion of equilibria which is less demanding of both agents and researchers, while still implying agents 'optimize' in a meaningful sense of that word. We show that: (i) there is an artificial intelligence algorithm that makes it relatively easy to compute (at least some of) the resultant equilibria, and (ii) it is relatively easy to use the properties of that equilibria to estimate any unknown parameters of the game. We use the analysis of a de-regulated electric utility market as an example. Two firms each own several generators and bid 'supply functions' into the market in every period (a quantity supplied as an increasing function of price). An independent system operator (an ISO) sums the supply curves horizontally and intersects the result with demand to determine the period's price and the quantities to be produced by each firm. The firm's cost of supplying electricity on each of its generators is increasing in the current quantity produced and stochastically increasing in the quantities produced since the last time the firm did maintenance on that generator. Firms do not know the current cost of their competitor's generators but realize that the returns they will earn from the bid on each of its generator will increase the less the quantity supplied by other generators (their own, as well as those of its competitors). This provides incentives for firms to simply shut down some generators without doing maintenance, and to implicitly co-ordinate shutdowns across firms. Power is supplied to the governor from the engine's output shaft by a belt or chain connected to the lower belt wheel. If the motion goes far enough, this motion causes the lever arms to pull down on a thrust bearing, which moves a beam linkage, which reduces the aperture of a throttle valve. The article to be proposed presents the initial stage of development of a computational platform for modeling, analysis, simulation and implementation teaching of dynamic systems studied in several engineering fields. The partial aims of the global proposal are presented. The platform foundation is based on pragmaticist semiotic, in order to promote a favorable environment to establish the theoretical-practical relations needed to yield the critical knowledge between teachers and students. The virtual laboratory in developing is significantly able to generate the dynamic model very close to the real dynamic behavior in such way, that the students can identify the acquired theoretical concepts formed into virtual implementations and its relations to real cases. The facility provided by user interfaces and transparency of resources of the proposed environment allows teachers and students to draw analogies between systems of different nature that lead to the same model. That doesn't mean a completely separate model representations - as occurs, for example, with physical models dissociated, used at the engineering courses. Furthermore, the computing resources available supplying syntactic, graphics, animations, diagrams and interpretation of the idealized model, as well as conversion of model representations, solutions of differential equations and implementations of the dynamic make it feasible to build more precise models, resulting in an activity of teaching and learning more effectively from the point of view of critical philosophy of the content learned. The nature of the model depends on jointly the aim of the analyst and analysis tools. If a pencil and paper analysis is done based on numeric literals than more parameters, a simplified model may be enough. However, this simplification, for example, could neglect elements that do not respond by a dominant mode in the dynamic system, or does not take account the nonlinearities, culminating in the less realistic representation of the same model. The platform is being developed in C+ +, which allows the creation of objects that represent each element of the system, and the easy expansion of the tool. Furthermore, it enables interconnection with other libraries and software needed to create the application. It has excellent performance, since its code is compiled, and allows portability to several platforms such as Windows, Linux and Macintosh. Therefore, the proposed environment effectively stands as one of the preferred places to pedagogical activity for the study of mathematical modeling of dynamic systems for Brazilian universities, it should also be pressing the contextualized teaching of mathematics courses for mid-level and introduction to engineering. The environment in developing denominated "Abstra", is being conceived to be companion software for an undergraduate-level teaching on Dynamic Systems Modeling in Control Systems Design jointly at the Assis Gurgacz University and Federal Technological University of Paraná, Brazil.We intent to make it as a public domain software in order to subsidize the distance teaching programs in Brazil following the successful experiences of university consortiums as Edx e Coursera in USA.

How Dynamic Performance Control works can best be described in canoeing terms: if you want to turn right when canoeing in the main current, you can brake using the paddle on the right side of the canoe. This is how most common electronic stability programs work. Alternatively, you could use the paddle powerfully on the left side of the canoe in order to have more control in progressing forwards and turning right. This is the principle behind Dynamic Performance Control. It links the standard rear differential with a mechanical planetary gear set and an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch for each rear wheel. Its mechatronical system combines informatics, electronics and mechanics to process complex data such as the yaw rate, wheel speeds, steering angle and engine torque so that it can react immediately: when required, the system ensures that drive power distribution to the rear wheels can be freely varied and increased on either side as needed. The power distribution can also be displayed on the onboard computer. Dynamic Performance Control increases directional stability when accelerating out of bends and provides the driver with extra support when dealing with difficult driving conditions. Before under- or oversteer can take place, lateral guided force is used to keep the vehicle on track. Precise steering significantly increases driving comfort and safety. Dynamic Performance Control is also effective when the vehicle is coasting - when the driver removes their foot from the accelerator - or when they have pressed the clutch pedal. If the rear wheels are on different types of surfaces, Dynamic Performance Control improves traction by supplying more drive power to the wheel with more grip. A wheel torque difference of up to 1,800 Nm can be actively created between the left and right rear wheels. This increases driving stability and allows for much faster acceleration. As a logical progression to the xDrive all-wheel drive system, Dynamic Performance Control can be matched to all drive concepts and engines. Whereas xDrive variably controls the power distribution between the front and rear axles, Dynamic Performance Control intelligently distributes power between the two rear wheels. This results in precise handling whatever the driving conditions.
